Adam Rish, a graduate student pursuing a Ph.D. in pharmaceutics at the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, will receive the Tomas Hirschfeld Scholar Award from the Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies at the SciX2023 Conference in October.
The beautiful Duquesne University campus atop the Bluff overlooking downtown Pittsburgh first caught Adam’s attention when he was looking into different graduate programs. The deep ties the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences has with the pharmaceutical industry and companies across the country and access to faculty members conducting cutting-edge research sold him on pursuing a Ph.D. in pharmaceutics in Dr. Carl Anderson’s lab.
At Duquesne, Adam has been able to pursue some of his personal research interests and recently was recognized with the Tomas Hirschfeld Scholar Award from the Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies (FACSS).
“My research is focused on addressing current limitations in calibration-free mathematical modeling methods that are applied for quality monitoring and control in pharmaceutical manufacturing processes,” he says. “I am honored for the research work the Lord has enabled me to accomplish to be recognized for the Tomas Hirschfeld Scholar Award from FACSS.”
Adam will receive the award at the start of the SciX2023 conference hosted by FACSS in Sparks, Nevada on October 8 and will give a presentation on his research later that week. After earning his Ph.D., he plans on working as a research scientist with a focus on manufacturing process development and monitoring in the pharmaceutical industry and feels well-prepared thanks to his experience at Duquesne.
The variety of pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment within the Duquesne University Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences available for me to be trained on and work with boosts my profile as a job candidate. The numerous connections at Duquesne University makes it easy to identify and apply for jobs in multiple pharmaceutical companies all around the country.”
